An old love: NARS Orgasm

In all my blush adventures, I'd quite forgotten about the very first proper high-end blush I ever bought, a little souvenir of that first proper Real Grown-Up Makeup purchase.  I did not part with that £20.50 as easily as I do now.

I kind of want to tell NARS Orgasm to cover itself up, just look at its underwear in plain sight!
Actually, I'd gone in to get Deep Throat, because I'd heard it was lovelier.  I remember saying to the woman, 'I wanted to get Deep Throat, I hear it's really popular', and her responding with 'Oh, I think you mean Orgasm',* and before I knew it I was clutching the iconic yellow Selfridges bag £20 lighter with a blush I hadn't even asked for.

I kind of didn't want it at first.  There was something of a phantom of the blush I'd actually gone to buy lurking around it, plus the packaging was so sleek and grown-up, and I kind of didn't want to get my smudgy, greedy fingers all over it.

And then I used it everyday for almost ever, actually.  I used it until I could see the silver pan glinting and used it for anything from a trip to the shops to a graduation.  And then suddenly, as my love for makeup took over full force, it was forgotten, stashed away and pushed aside as I dabbled with most of the MAC counter at one time or another.

That's kind of how it stayed until recently.  Deniz reminded me I even had it.  It was a bit dusty and sad-looking, all its packaging all battered and worn.  Probably how it should be, anyway.  For about two weeks I wore it straight, and the one day when I didn't wear it felt sort of wrong, and I looked forward to being able to wear it tomorrow.

That NARS flush thing that you do...
There's just something so easy and no fuss about it that I like.  Perfect with neutrals, perfect with red lips and it's a kind of easygoing blush.  If it were a Barbie doll, it'd be Skipper: old faithful, never lets you down, easy peasy lemon squeezy (though I'm not saying Skipper was easy in that sense.  That'd just be mean, I wouldn't want to ruin the girl's reputation…).  And that is how I feel about Orgasm.  No mess, no fuss, just a golden sheeny coral which requires no forethought.  It's not that special or unique, it just kind of is - and with a name like that, very unashamedly so.

* On a side note, welcome to those who got here by searching for porn on Google, sorry that you won't find questionable material concealed within, however much you look.

Have you found an old favourite recently?

  1. I absolutely love Orgasm. Although I do tend to wear Deep Throat more often, it's such a gorgeous little staple and the shimmer means that I don't bother with highlighter. NARS blushers are such so wonderfully pigmented and easy to wear.. especially with minimal eye/lip makeup and a super bright cheek xx

    1. It's just so easy, isn't it? There's no thought needed, it just goes well with everything, no matter what you're wearing :) I do love NARS at the moment, I think it's because I've gone off MAC so much - I'm reaching for quality, high-end brands who are consistent with their products xx

    1. I think I like it because it's kind of meh. I just don't have any problems with it - I don't LOVE it so much as it's so easy to grab and goes with everything :) zz

  3. It looks gorgeous, your skin looks so natural and healthy. I keep browsing the internet trying to decide which NARS blush I want to take the plunge and buy... still undecided! :)x

    1. oh, the eternal question! I think a better question is, 'which NARS blushes DON'T I want?' and then work back from there! I think next on my list will be Gilda, Angelika and Luster, but haven't made plans beyond there ;) x

  4. I am really curious and want to try it! Like you, I have been leaning towards Deep Throat for my first Nars purchase. Did you ever get Deep Throat in the end? xx

  6. Its funny I wore Orgasm for the first time in forever today and do you know what I've missed it - a gorgeous colour that gives a real flush. I only own Orgasm and Deep Throat but I definitely need more Nars blushers in my life x

    1. It's weird how it becomes a compulsion with Orgasm blush! Not with any other blush do I get the strong compulsion to wear it day after day for weeks!

    1. Thanks lovely. It was a gift from a friend, that lipstick. It's Pink Me Up! by Catrice. No doubt I'm gonna get loads of random men on here now looking for porn because I mentioned it ;)

  9. My first Nars purchase was the Orgasm multiple, I think because the Sephora website made is seem like a "cult classic" and I was like, well I need a cult classic! I used it alot but I never really felt like I loved it, and now that I have gotten more into makeup I hear that the multiples aren't that great anyway, an opinion I agree with. I wish I would have just gotten the Orgasm powder blush way back then.

    1. Aah the Multiple. Disappointing products if you ask me! No staying power on my skin, I only own two (one limited edition gel finish one, and another one in Angelika which was also a limited run), and they are lovely, but they just don't pack the same punch as the blushes!

  10. Ooh what's that gorgeous lipstick you're wearing on that pic?
I'm digressing... I try to go back in time and use old goodies more these days (I keep buying new stuff and forgetting about the old one, that's BAD). You actually reminded me both of Orgasm and Deep Throat which I haven't worn in a long while, I might wear one of those tomorrow :)

  12. I fall in and out of love with highlighters. Found some benefit high beam the other day and used the teensiest bit on my cheekbones and my friends at college were like 'you look nice today' - convinced me to pop it back into my make-up bag.

  14. Oo..Orgasm is one of my favorite blushes. It's just so easy to use. I also have Deep Throat and Luster..but I tend to use Orgasm just because I have it stored in my everyday makeup case. I should toss the other two in there as well so that they get some love. I fall in and out of love with Benefit boxed blushes the most. I love Dallas and Bella Bamba the most.

  15. Oh I feel exactly the same way! Nars Orgasm was the first blush I ever purchased from them and for some bizarre reason (cough I buy too much makeup for my own good and hence lose track cough) I just had it down as a 'boring, pink' blush. Rediscovered it a few weeks ago and it is beautiful. Glad I found your blog actually, your YouTube is wonderful!

xoxo (resisting the temptation to say 'gossip girl' in my head...too late haha)

  16. my first blush ever was MAC's Flirt & Tease (this is sad, but I bought it because it had the word "tease" in it and at the time I was very obsessed with Dita Von Teese...)

anyhoo I would use it on a daily basis and then all of a sudden I had too many blushes bla bla bla.

then I looked at some old fotos and realised that it seriously is the best looking blush on my skin (for reference I am Mac NC15-NC20) it looks great with red lips. It's totally gorgeous and I don't think it gets enough love! x

  18. Cami I love everything about you! I say that in the least stalkerish way possible,I remember when I first found you on YouTube I spent around 3 hours watching you talk about things I didn't like but now am obsessed with. As a broke student who spends many hours looking at Nars online could you recommend me a everything blush. Thank you.

    1. Depending on your skin tone I would definitely recommend something like Douceur from NARS. It's a neutral colour which goes with everything from everyday makeup to going out and everything in between :) It looks like nothing in the pan, but that's sort of the point! It's so easy to wear :)
