Falling out of love: Shiseido Fine Liner Pen

In my videos, I talk a lot about a particular product, the Shiseido Fine Liner pen, which I've been using for about a year or more. I've always considered it a Holy Grail product; something which has stood the test of the 3 month itch that I normally get after using cosmetics.

I'll explain. New cosmetics and I always have something of a 'honeymoon period' where they apply beautifully and look amazing and I'll use them almost every day until the dreaded 3 month itch, wherein I inevitably get bored (or acquire something new and even more shiny) and the product is consigned to a drawer, to be used when the fancy takes me.

This never happened with the Shiseido Fine Liner pen; this product was something of a miracle for me in terms of getting ready quickly and with no fuss in the mornings. What it allowed was extremely black liquid eyeliner which could be made as thin or as thick as you like, all in a single fluid hand movement. The staying power has always been excellent, the product has worked flawlessly and instead of a felt tip applicator, there was a smooth brush.

Until recently.

Recently, the beloved liquid liner pen and I have been having a bit of a falling out, and considering it's the only liquid liner I brought home with me for the holidays, I'm either getting frustrated with what the product is doing, or forgoing liquid liner because it's becoming a hassle.

So what's souring my beautiful relationship?

The product is starting to bleed in the inner corner of my eyes as soon as I put it on. To the extent that I either rub all of the makeup off my eyes, or I have these weird patches in my inner corners which are just devoid of product and look bizarre.

To add insult to injury, it doesn't just bleed, but transfers to other parts of my eye. What the hell? The product is now coming out of the pen far too quickly and far too watery and sort of a greyish colour; when I swatch it on the back of my hand, it beads up and refuses to stick to my skin.

It could be that I just got a dodgy cartridge, or that the pen is past its best, but for now, this eyeliner is being consigned to the place where all the other things I don't use go.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good liquid liner in a pen form? I want something easily transportable, preferably with a brush tip though I will consider a felt-tip kind of applicator. It must be super-black and have good staying power, too!

Oh Shiseido, why have you forsaken me?
